The promise of victory is revealed in pieces. A melancholic, young girl battles back from a self-imposed exile to become a woman fully able to embrace the joy of life. Each poem speaks of this confidence; every sorrow can be healed by God. Life has its rough edges, but the darkness of each passing storm cannot persist in the presence of light. The women in the short story, “Around Midnight,” connect with an inner power when they chose to see a future beyond the pain.
